Who Are We Raising Money For?

The Two Cities Boat Race Official Charity is Sparks, the Children's Medical Research Charity. Founded and supported by many of Britain's leading sports and entertainment stars, this year Sparks Presidents are Gabby and Kenny Logan.

Sparks awards grants to hospitals and universities throughout the UK enabling them to conduct research into conditions affecting children. Sparks is a rarity because their research covers the whole spectrum of paediatric medicine with an emphasis on projects likely to have a clear, clinical application in the foreseeable future. Childhood cancer, juvenile arthritis, club foot, cerebral palsy and spina bifida are just some of the conditions where they are not just saving lives but improving the quality of life. Their medical advisory committee is made up of some of the country's leading professors and doctors donating their time for free.

Currently Sparks is funding a major Manchester-based research project into pre-eclampsia, a complication of pregnancy that can lead to the deaths of both mothers and babies. For more details please visit www.sparks.org.uk
